Trivia of the Week: Banawe Rice Terraces

The Banawe Rice Terraces (Banawe, Ifugao; 8-10 hours from Manila by bus)

1. Unlike most “wonders of the world” the Banawe Rice Terraces is still fully functional.
2. Unlike many other great wonders, BRT symbolizes LIFE, not death.
3. Built by all – built for all. Unlike other man-made wonders which are built for the gods or an elite group or a king, BRT was built by its people for its people – the Ifugao.
4. More ancient than the Egyptian Pyramids, BRT is part of the Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras (2,000 to 6,000 years old).
5. It is the only man-made wonder that is sculpted from earth.
6. If the walls of BRT will be connected end to end, the length is ten times longer than the Great Wall of China. In fact, it would reach more than half around the entire planet!
